Marvel Entertainment has formed an international advisory board as it seeks to export the brand to key foreign markets in the wake of the global success of films like Iron Man.

James F Halpin, a Marvel director since March 1995, will chair the board, while Marvel's president of worldwide consumer products Simon Philips will serve as the primary company liaison.

The initial advisory board comprises Bollywood producer Manmohan Shetty representing India and CDC Corporation executive vice-chairman and CEO and former Adlabs Films chairman Peter Yip on behalf of China. Marvel is in the process of filling two additional positions.

Philips said the idea was to capitalise on the international success of Marvel's pictures and 'leverage this growing recognition into an expanding base of business opportunities on a global basis.'

He added: 'Peter and Manmohan are highly respected business leaders in their respective fields and possess a deep knowledge of consumer preferences in the regions in which they operate.

'We believe this new advisory board will strengthen our international business focus and enable us to further maximise the potential of the Marvel brand on a global level.'
