Simon Hewlett has been promoted to executive vice president of marketing for Universal Pictures International (UPI).

As EVP of marketing, Hewlett will oversee all of the marketing functions for Universal’s international theatrical releases including creative advertising, media planning and buying, promotions and publicity.  He will report to president of International for UPI David Kosse.

“Simon has been a key part of our team since he came to Universal,” said Kosse.  “Having his leadership on the marketing of our films will be enormously valuable and I’m glad that he has accepted this well-deserved promotion.”

Hewlett came to Universal in 2006 as managing director, UK and Eire and was part of a team including Kosse and EVP of Distribution Duncan Clark who helped start Universal Pictures International in 2007 when the company separated from United International Pictures (UIP).

During his tenure at UPI, Hewlett has overseen the UK and Eire releases of features such as Hot Fuzz, Bourne Ultimatum, Atonement, Wanted, Mr. Bean’s Holiday and Robin Hood

Prior to coming to Universal, Hewlett was Twentieth Century Fox’s Managing Director of UK theatrical operations for four years.
