Barry Sonnenfeld has come aboard as producer on Starz Media and Vanguard Animation Films' animated comedy Space Chimps.

Sonnenfeld, whose directorial credits include the Men In Back films and Get Shorty, has been a creative consultant on the project since it began production last autumn.

Vanguard's chief executive officer John Williams also announced that Jeff Daniels, Cheryl Hines, Stanley Tucci, Andy Samberg, Kenan Thompson, Kristin Chenoweth, and Patrick Warburton have joined the cast.

Space Chimps charts the adventures of primate astronauts thatland onan inhabited planet and help the natives overcome a despotic leader. Twentieth Century Fox will release the film in North America and Odyssey Entertainment is handling international sales.

Kirk DeMicco wrote the screenplay and is directing at Vanguard's Vancouver studio. Cast members include Carlos Alazraqui, Cameron Bright, Patrick Breen, Kath Soucie, Omid Abtahi and Jane Lynch.

'I've also wanted to work with Kirk DeMicco for a long time; Kirk brings comedy and humanity to Chimps, which is no easy feat. I think Chimps has the potential to be a very successful commercial movie, which will work for kids, teens and adults. I'm proud to be a part of it.'
