Sony Pictures Classics (SPC) is close to acquiring North American rights to A La Verticale De L'Ete, directed by Vietnamese director Anh Hung Tran, which screened at Cannes in Un Certain Regard.

Le Studio Canal Plus is handling international sales on the film, one of several Asian titles to secure US distribution during Cannes.

SPC has also acquired North American rights to The Luzhin Defense, a period romance directed by Marleen Gorris with John Turturro and Emily Watson starring. The film was produced, and is being handled internationally, by the UK's Renaissance Films.
