Sony Pictures has made itssecond major buy here with the acquisitionof North American and LatinAmerican rights to Gregory Hoblit's FBIcybercop thriller Untraceable starring Diane Lane.

Screen Gems will release theproject in North America and SonyPictures Releasing International willdistribute in Latin America. Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper did the dealwith LakeshoreInternational, which has been introducing the project tobuyers hereall week.

Sony swooped last week on multipleterritories to Element FilmsInternational's drama The Last Time and terrorism thriller FiveFingers.

Untraceable is set to begin production in February and centreson apolice officer's game of cat-and-mouse with a ruthless predator.

Allison Burnett wrote thefinal script from an original screenplay byRobert Fyvolent and Mark RBrinker.Lakeshore chairman and chief executive officer TomRosenberg andpresident Gary Lucchesi are producing along with Andy Cohenand StevenPearl.

Lane earned an Academy Awardnomination for Unfaithful in2003, andher credits include the current release Hollywoodland, UnderTheTuscan Sun, The Perfect Storm, Must Love Dogs, and A Walk On the Moon.

Hoblit's recently wrappedthe thriller Fracture starringAnthonyHopkins and Ryan Gosling, and he previously directed PrimalFear andFallen.Lakeshore's AFM slate includes GianniAmelio's drama The Missing Star,which premiered in Venice and Toronto; and Michael Apted's historicaldramaAmazing Grace.
