The Coen brothers' Intolerable Cruelty had a strong but far from record-breaking opening in Spain, earning Euros 1.6m off 235 copies through UIP, enough to place it in top spot. Columbia's Hollywood Homicide placed second, with just shy of Euros 1m off 275 prints.

Other first-weekend openers included: Clint Eastwood's Mystic River, which ranked fifth with just under Euros 550,000 and the weekend's second-highest per-copy average of Euros 4,558; Angelina Jolie-starrer Beyond Borders in ninth spot with Euros 437,603; the Alien Director's Cut re-release in 12th position with Euros 167,534; and curiously, One Night At McCools, a 2001 film, placed 20th with Euros 67,771.

Spanish titles Football Days (Dias De Futbol), Carmen and Take My Eyes (Te Doy Mis Ojos), continued their strong performances. Days ranked fourth in its sixth weekend, with a new cumulative gross of a whopping Euros 7.6m. Carmen placed seventh in its fourth weekend, with a cumulative gross of Euros 4.5m. Take My Eyes ranked tenth in its third weekend with a still-strong per copy average of Euros 3,169.
