Galician investment fundFilmanova Invest has signed on to co-finance Spanish veteran Jaime Chavarri'slatest film, flamenco biopic Camaron.

Camaron will star up-and-comer Oscar Jaenada (November)in the life story of well-known flamenco musician Jose Monge Cruz, better knownas "Camaron de la Isla."

"We were attracted to thisproject because we believe it has huge international potential," said AntonReixa, co-founder of Filmanova, which will take executive co-producer creditsand oversee international sales on the Euros 4m film.

A co-production with MonoriaFilms, Camaron will be distributed in Spain by Buena Vista and hasbacking from Television Espanola and Telemadrid. Chavarri (Besos Para Todos)co-wrote the script with Alvaro del Amo (Una Preciosa Puesta Del Sol).

Veronica Sanchez (SouthFrom Granada) and Merce Llorens (The Whore And The Whale) co-star inthe film, shooting from February 28 in Madrid, Cadiz and Paris.

Dubbed the 'Mick Jagger ofCadiz', Camaron is credited with bringing an innovative, modern flourish toflamenco and is still one of the art's most recognised figures. He participatedin several feature films, including Carlos Saura's Sevillanas, shortlybefore his death in 1992.

Curiously, Camaron's lifehas inspired another recent foray into film: Catalan director Isaki Lacuesta (Cravanvs Cravan) is currently at work on a fictional documentary about themusician, called La Leyenda Del Tiempo.
