Spider-Man 3: The IMAX Experience has grossed more than $20m worldwide since its May 3 premiere, according to Sony Picture Entertainment and IMAX.

It is the fastest-grossing digitally-remastered giant-screen release of a conventional film, earning its take in 31 days. Not surprisingly, the film marked the widest release in IMAX's history: 84 screens in North America and a further 34 internationally.

The film's overall worldwide gross is now $844m, making it the highest-grossing of the franchise's three titles and the highest-grossing film in SPE's history. The franchise itself has passed $2.4bn. All three titles are directed by Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire as the web-slinging hero.

Rory Bruer, president, domestic distribution, Sony Pictures Releasing pronounced the company very pleased with the IMAX results. 'It's clearly been well-received by Spider-Man fans, and we anticipate they will continue to fill theatres around the world.' IMAX Filmed Entertainment chairman and president Greg Foster said the audience response is testament IMAX's ability to deliver the 'wow factor'.
