Laura Ziskin, the producer behind Sony’s global smash Spider-Man franchise as well as No Way Out, died on Sunday following a battle with breast cancer. She was 61.

Ziskin was an ardent supporter of strong women on and off the screen. She served as executive producer on Pretty Woman and teamed up with Sally Field to produce Murphy’s Romance in 1984.

Her credits include To Die For, D.O.A., Hero and next summer’s release The Amazing Spider-Man.

Ziskin helped to found the research advocacy group Stand Up To Cancer in 2008. She is survived by her husband, the screenwriter Alvin Sargent, as well as a daughter from an earlier marriage.
