Dante Spinotti,the veteran cinematographer who earned two Oscar nominations for The Insider and LA Confidential, is to be the subject of a retrospectivein Palms Springs, California, from Nov 1-2.

The two-daystand-alone event features screenings, on-stage discussions, a masterclass bySpinotti and a keynote speech by the acclaimed cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs.

The Art OfCinematography: A Retrospective Of The Work Of Dante Spinotti is beingorganised by The Camelot Theatres of Palm Springs, the Desert Film Society andthe American Society Of Cinematographers.

Starmaker, LAConfidential and TheLast Of The Mohicanshave all been confirmed as screenings, with more to be announced. Each showwill be followed by a discussion between Spinotti and journalist Bob Fisher.

Spinotti'stwo-hour masterclass is due to take place on Nov 2, when he will discuss hisstyle and techniques using illustrative clips from his films.

A day earlier onNov 1 Kovacs, whose credits include Five Easy Pieces, Shampoo and Two Weeks Notice, is due to give the keynote address.

Kovacs was thesubject of last year's Cinematographer's Day retrospective,organised by Dr David Kaminsky and cinematographer Frederic Goodich.

'We arestarting what we hope will be come an annual tradition of asking the previousyear's honouree to give the keynote address,' said Kaminsky, who isco-chairing this year's event.

Anticipatedattendees include Sharon Stone, the Oscar-winning editor Pietro Scalia andproduction designer Jeanne Oppenwall.
