Lia Buman has been promoted to vice-president of acquisitions for Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group (SPWAG).

Buman, who will travel to Cannes with the team, started her career at Sony in 2001 and joined SPWAG in 2007.

Her projects have ranged from scripts to finished films including The Men Who Stare At Goats, Moon, Machete, Pillars Of The Earth, and Soul Surfer.

Buman will focus on acquisitions and will also play a key role in coordinating marketing and distribution issues on all SPWAG titles, working closely with related distribution companies.

“Lia’s intelligence and keen sense of the film business makes her a tremendous asset to the group and to all of our partners,” SPWAG senior executive vice-president and general manager Adrian Alperovich, to whom she will report, said. “She adds great value to every step of the process.”
