France'sStudioCanal has acquired all rights outside the US and Asia on the next filmfrom director Wong Kar Wai, A Lady From Shanghai.

StarringNicole Kidman, it is being produced by Birth and Ken Parkproducer Jean-Louis Piel.

Althoughthe film will not be classified as a French co-production, StudioCanal willparticipate as a financial co-producer and will begin sales at Berlin.

Themainly English-language shoot is set to commence in July in China and should beready for a late 2006 release.

StudioCanalwould not disclose budget details but said the spend would be "big" on the1950s-set film about a "glamorous, dangerous woman in danger and in love with aspy."

Thecompany has also taken all rights on Daniele Thompson's next film, FauteuilD'Orchestre. The film is set in the world of French theatre and revolvesaround a Parisian pianist.

Writtenby Thompson and her son Christopher, Orchestre stars Albert Dupontel,Jose Garcia, Cecile de France, Valerie Lemercier and Claude Brasseur.

Theroughly Euros 10 million film is produced by Alain Sarde and should be ready inearly 2006.
