StudioCanal has announced the creation of a co-production and acquisition arm as well as a development arm within its French and European production department.

Pathe’s Leonard Glowinski will join StudioCanal as head of French and European co-productions and acquisitions. The executive most recently held the title of deputy managing director, business affairs at Pathe.

Glowinski has producing credits for a number of Pathe films including Julian Schnabel’s The Diving Bell And The Butterfly, Oliver Stone’s Alexander and Christophe Barratier’s The Chorus.

The new post at StudioCanal will see him look to acquire projects, as StudioCanal ramps up its international ambitions. In conversation with ScreenDaily, Glowinski said that he was brought on board by StudioCanal chief operating officer Camille Trumer who himself joined the mini-major in late 2008 after leaving Paramount Pictures France in October.

Glowinski said he was ‘thrilled’ with the new job and that  he was eager to find international co-productions for StudioCanal to work with. He will assist StudioCanal and its subsidiaries Kinowelt and Optimum, in order to help them “produce films in the best conditions.” The idea, he said, “is to build a model that can work.” He will start in his new role in September.

Meanwhile, Diane Reynald, currently head of TV and new media sales at StudioCanal, will take over the development arm. She will run the development of the French films that StudioCanal is involved in. Reynald joined Canal Plus in 1991 as head of international TV sales before moving to StudioCanal in 1997.
