Summit International has boarded worldwide rights excluding Italy ahead of AFM to Giuseppe Tornatore's $30m epic Italian drama Baaria.

Italy's Medusa Film and Tarak Ben Ammar's France-based Quinta Communications produced the story and Quinta had previously handled sales.

Medusa holds Italian rights to the Sicilian-set comdy spanning three generations from the 1930s to the 1970s. Monica Bellucci, Luigi Lo Cascio, Raoul Bova and Lina Sastri are among the giant ensemble cast of the film which is already being groomed for a possible Cannes launch.

Patrick Wachsberger, David Garrett and co will also be tempting buyers with the $85m Alcon Entertainment and Silver Pictures post-apocalyptic action film The Book Of Eli staring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman that Albert and Allen Hughes will begin shooting in February 2009 in time for a January 2010 North American release.

Horror tale Sorority Row starring Rumer Willis is in its third week of production and Summit Entertainment will release in North America over Halloween 2009.

Rounding out the slate are the animated adventure Astro Boy starring Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage and Kristen Bell and Roman Polanski's mystery The Ghost, set to commence shooting in February 2009 with a new male lead who replaces Nicolas Cage and will be announced imminently.
