Summit Entertainment will release Imagi Studios' animated feature Astro Boy in North America on October 23, 2009, on more than 3,000 screens.

Summit and Imagi are putting together the final details on a marketing plan targeting family and adult audiences. The marketing strategy includes a commitment from a major fast food restaurant as well as partners in toys, games, books and others areas.

Summit Entertainment holds worldwide rights except for Imagi's reserved territories of Japan, Hong Kong and China and will announce international release dates shortly.

David Bowers is directing the story of a young robot's search for identity based on Japanese manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka's 1950s creation. Timothy Harris wrote the screenplay and Maryann Garger is producing.

The voice cast includes Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Bill Nighy, Nathan Lane and Eugene Levy.
