Mikael Haafstroem's highly anticipated Evil (Ondskan) had a tremendous opening weekend with 108,000 admissions on its 95 prints, more than double the take of second-placed, Pirates Of The Caribbean.

With more than two million copies sold of Jan Guillou's autobiographical novel from 1981, it wasn't surprising that expectations were high along with the media attention.

But after a few meagre weeks at the Swedish box-office, Evil's massive SKR11,465 screen average reinvigorated the chart while it flattened the competition, with only Pirates and Spirited Away displaying screen averages above SKR3,500.

All other local releases were moving down the chart, Miffo to 8th after nine solid weeks, but Lisa Ohlin's Seeking Temporary Wife continued down the chart to 17th after four weeks on release.
