Lukas Moodysson, the director who showed his appreciation when he won the Swedish Oscars for Show Me Love by giving the audience the finger, has controversially missed getting a best film nomination this year for Together.

Instead, Roy Andersson's Songs From The Second Floor was heavily nominated, securing nominations for best film, directing, script and cinematography. Moodysson had to content himself with nominations for best directing and best script.

Together had been clear favourite for Sweden's Guldbagge Awards, having been praised by local critics as well as securing 850,000 admissions to become last year's box office winner. Eyebrows were also raised when the old master Ingmar Bergman was not amongst the candidates for the best script award with Faithless.

Apart from Andersson, new talent was the big winner, a fact which is being interpreted as a sign of renewal in the local film industry. Many of the newcomers nominated in the directing and acting categories also come from ethnic minorities or an overseas background.

Swedish press reports are already speculating that Moodysson was being punished for his behaviour at the awards ceremony two years ago. However, he is likely to have another chance to grace the Guldbagge awards podium on February 5: along with the nods for Together, he was involved in two other nominated titles, executive producing Jalla, Jalla! and co-writing The New Country.
