Several French-region launches caught attention in Switzerland last weekend. It was little surprise that these were led by French language action comedy Tais-Toi which, with $148,085 (SFR 193,695) taken from 16 screens over the four-day weekend, was the number one film in the French-speaking region. Tais-Toi is released in the German region on Jan 29, 2004.

Also playing well was Gus Van Sant's Cannes Palme D'Or winner Elephant. The acclaimed drama, about a violent incident that rocks the lives of the students and teachers at an American high-school, launched at eight sites in the region for a strong $5,274 (SFR 6,898) screen average. It will go out in the German-speaking sector on Nov 6.

Action horror title Underworld saw a so-so launch at seven venues in 17th place. The film, which stars Kate Beckinsale, also opens on Jan 29, 2004 across the German region.

Meanwhile in the German region Clint Eastwood's acclaimed drama Mystic River launched for a $122,850 (SFR 160,688) take from 20 sites for a stellar $6,142 average. The film, which stars Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon, was released a week before in the French sector and has taken $475,904 (SFR 622,483) to date.
