Tartan Films has taken all UK and Ireland rights to two Cannes competition award winners: Silent Light and Paranoid Park.

Carlos Reygadas' Silent Light, sold by BAC Films, jointly won the Jury Prize. The film is about a father and husband whose faith is tested when he falls in love with another woman.

Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park, sold by MK2, won the special 60th anniversary prize. That film is about a teenage skateboarder who accidentally commits murder.

Tartan managing director Laura DeCasto said: 'We are delighted that the Cannes jury has chosen to make awards to Tartan's first two 2007 Cannes acquisitions. Carlos is a unique director with a distinctive voice, and we are delighted to be reunited with him on the stunning Silent Light.

Gus Van Sant's varied and visionary body of work puts him in the top bracket of American independent filmmakers. We are delighted to welcome him into the Tartan fold, and look forward to dazzling UK audiences with Paranoid Park .'
