It was always going to be afilm that pleased the critics and TenCanoes did just that on the weekend, winning best film at the Film CriticsCircle of
But the most awards went tothe drama Jindabyne, which won bestdirector for Ray Lawrence, supporting actor for Deborra-Lee Furness, andadapted screenplay for Beatrix Christian, whose source material was a RaymondCarver short story.
David Williamson also won acinematography award for Jindabyne,but it was shared with Ian Jones, who was behind the lens for the filming of Ten Canoes. Ten Canoes editor Tania Nehme also won her category, giving thatfilm three awards compared to Jindabyne'sfour.
Not surprisingly, given howmuch attention the performances have attracted, Candy received two awards in the acting category: for Abbie Cornishand, in the supporting category, for Geoffrey Rush.
The award for best maleactor in a leading role went to Shane Jacobson, who played the title characterin the low-budget comedy Kenny, whichhas taken the Australian box office by storm. He and his brother, directorClayton Jacobson, also won best original screenplay.
In the foreign categories, Good Night, And Good Luck won best filmin English and French film Cache (Hidden) was voted best film in alanguage other than English.
