China Lion Film Distribution has acquired rights for North America, Australia and New Zealand to three titles handled by IM Global – Only You, The Wasted Times and Mr Six.
Only You, starring Tang Wei and Liao Fan, is a remake of the 1994 romantic comedy of the same name starring Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey, Jr.
Directed by Zhang Hao and produced by Feng Xiaogang for Huayi Brothers, the film follows a woman who skips out on her wedding to track down the man she believes she was truly meant to wed.
The film will be released theatrically in North America on July 24, day-and-date with mainland China, and a day earlier in Australia and New Zealand.
Cheng Er’s The Wasted Times, starring Zhang Ziyi, Ge You and Asano Tadanobu, is a revenge thriller set in 1930s Shanghai, revolving around a Japanese spy hunting down his former friend for murdering his family. The film is set for release on October 3 during the National Day holidays.
Guan Hu’s Mr Six, starring Kris Wu, Li Yifeng, Zhang Hanyu and Feng Xiaogang, will receive a day-and-date release in December. Feng Xiaogang plays the title character, a former gangster living alone with various illnesses, who is tempted back into the business by his son.
Both The Wasted Times and Mr Six will also receive day-and-date releases with mainland China, with Australia and New Zealand theatrical releases scheduled for one day prior. China Lion recently released The Ark Of Mr Chow on June 19 and will release Forever Young on July 10.
