Fox Star Studios’ CEO Vijay Singh has revealed further details of its Hindi remake of UK production Metro Manila, which the studio is co-producing with the Bhatt brothers’ Vishesh Films.

Entitled City Lights, the film is scheduled to start shooting in December for a tentative May release, with Hansal Mehta directing and Raj Kumar heading the cast.

“We are taking the germ of the idea and giving it Indian soul and emotion,” Singh told Screen. “We brought Metro Manila to the table and suggested Vishesh Films produce the film as part of our four-film agreement with them.”

Fox International Productions acquired worldwide right remake rights to the film in a deal announced this year at Cannes. Other foreign-language remakes and an English-language remake are also understood to be on the cards.

Following City Of Lights, Fox Star and Vishesh Films will also co-produce Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, starring Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan, and Vikram Bhatt’s Mr X, also starring Hashmi. The fourth film under the deal has not yet been announced.

Tagalog-language Metro Manila, directed by Sean Ellis, is the UK’s entry to the foreign-language category of the upcoming Academy Awards.

Fox Star Studios has also boarded Endemol India’s Hindi remake of Malayalam-language hit Traffic. Directed by Rajesh Pillai and starring Manoj Bajpayee, the remake marks Endemol India’s first feature film production. The film is currently in production for release in the first quarter of 2014.
