Thailand’s Kantana Group has set up a joint venture with Japanese studio Nikkatsu and broadcaster Nippon TV to work on projects including CGI production and animation.
The new venture, Kantana Japan Corporation, will be based in Tokyo with Nikkatsu holding a 51% share, Kantana 39% and Nippon TV the remaining 10%.
“The newly established company’s main business is to receive orders throughout Japan for computer graphics production. Moreover, we will leverage Kantana Group’s resources to pursue new business opportunities such as co-producing animations. With Southeast Asia as our base, we will endeavor to develop and expand various production-related businesses,” said the partners in a statement.
Kantana, Thailand’s leading post-production house, has subsidiares in Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia and plans to expand into Japan and the rest of Asia. The company also has a production arm, Kantana Motion Pictures, which recently produced horror thriller Hong Hoon, directed by Kulp Kaljareuk and starring Ananda Everingham.
