Thailand’s Mosquito Films Distribution has picked up four Southeast Asian titles, including The Second Life Of Thieves, directed by Woo Ming Jin, which is making its world premiere in BIFF’s Window on Asian Cinema section.

Malaysian director Woo Ming Jin’s previous films include Tiger Factory, which screened in Cannes, and Woman On Fire Looks For Water, which was in Venice and Busan.

Mosquito has also picked up Edmund Yeo’s feature directorial debut River Of Exploding Durians, which will make its world premiere in competition at the upcoming Tokyo International Film Festival. Woo took on the role of producer for Yeo’s film.

“Edmund and I are excited to work with Mosquito. We are in good hands and look forward to a long-term relationship with them. I believe this is a collaboration that will serve not just Malaysian and Thai cinema, but also Southeast Asian cinema in general. Together, we can share more of our films with the rest of the world,” said Woo.

“All of us Southeast Asians are making films under the same circumstances. Because of this, we share the same DIY spirit that is behind Mosquito Films to begin with. After launching the company in January with our own titles, we’re proud to take our first step towards representing regional films by partnering with the prolific Greenlight Pictures,” said Aditya Assarat, Mosquito Films partner and director of films such as Wonderful Town and Hi-so, referring to Woo and Yeo’s production company.

At BIFF, Mosquito Films also has the world premieres of P-047 director Kongdej Jaturanrasmee’s boyhood drama So Be It, which won support from Busan’s Asian Cinema Fund (ACF), and Mary Is Happy, Mary Is Happy editor Chonlasit Upanigkit’s feature directorial debut W. Both films are in Window on Asian Cinema.
