Mumbai-based Pocket Films is joining forces with Bengali filmmaker Q’s Overdose Joint to launch an online distribution platform for independent films.

Q will act as curator for the platform, Overdose Pocket Joint (http://www.overdosepocketjoint.in), which will focus on “niche and edgy” content from around the world and offer revenue-sharing deals to filmmakers.

“We’re trying to build an audience of people who want to see the kind of content that we creates as producers, but don’t really how to distribute,” said Overdose Joint’s Celine Loop. “We thought VoD would be a good way to start.”

“We plan to offer pay-per-view streaming and download-to-buy options at different price points,” said Pocket Films’ Saameer Mody. “Our aim is to cultivate an audience for indie films whether they’re from India, US or Europe.”

Content aggregator Pocket Films already operates an online platform for shorts and docs with library of around 2,700 titles. The company also runs short film contests with partners including the Stuttgart Indian Film Festival and is a partner with Germany’s Primehouse on PrimePitch.
