Shineshow Co. Ltd, a joint venture between Shanda Pictures Limited and Hunan Broadcasting and Television Group, is to produce a reality TV show I Want to Make Movies, which plans to scout new filmmaking talents in the Chinese-speaking region.

The winner of this film project pitching and financing contest will be given RMB10 million as the first funding for the project which will then be the first film production from Shineshow in 2011.

According to Long Danni, CEO of Shineshow, the programme will be looking for first-time filmmakers who have the potential to make commercial films. Long is also CEO of EE Media, the organizing company and artist manager of Super Girls, the well-known reality singing competition show on TV, which was aired on Hunan Broadcasting TV channel. I Want to Make Movies will be also be aired on Hunan Broadcasting TV channel in May. 

Entries are being invited from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. 

The preliminary stage will take place on major Chinese video-sharing websites such as Sina.com, Sohu.com and Youku.com.  Participants are requested to submit a 5-minute short film and will be judged by both Internet users and designated jury.  The final stage will take place on TV from May to July, in which filmmakers will be pitching story ideas live on TV for their first feature film project.

“This is a film financing forum on TV, a marriage between reality TV show and film financing,” commented Yu Dong, CEO of Bona International Film Group, who is invited as a guest speaker for the show.

Shanda Pictures Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited a leading interactive entertainment media company in China, and Hunan Broadcasting and Television Group, announced a joint venture to invest an aggregate of $87.8m (RMB600m) to produce and distribute films and TV series, as well as engage in other related businesses such as agency services.

The resulting company Shineshow was established in November, 2009 with a registered capital of $87.8m (RMB600m).  Besides the TV show, it also plans to produce a series of films and TV drama.  Last year on the launch of the company it announced plans to produce TV series Princess Huanzhu and Xing Chen Bian (Evolution of Beginnings), an adaptation of a popular online novel.
