Fortissimo, WME go to New York with Maisie
Fortissimo Films will handle international sales and WME domestic on Red Crown Productions’ What Maisie Knew, set to star Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard and Steve Coogan.
An adaptation of the Henry James novel set in contemporary New York, the comedy drama will be directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, the directing duo behind 2001 crime drama The Deep End. Production is scheduled to start in New York in August.
Fortissimo is introducing the project to buyers in Cannes, while WME’s Graham Taylor and Mark Ankner are representing domestic rights for the film. Fortissimo’s executive VP of Sales and Acquisitions Winnie Lau negotiated with Red Crown’s principals and WME.
Written by Nancy Doyne and Carroll Cartwright, the story centres on a six-year-old girl enmeshed in the bitter divorce of her mother, a rock-and-roll icon, and art dealer father.
Moore stars as Maisie’s mother, Coogan as the father and Alexander Skarsgard as Moore’s new husband.
Launched in 2010 by Daniel Crown and Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Red Crown recently wrapped Goats, starring David Duchovny, Vera Farmiga, Keri Russell and Ty Burrell.
