Laurie May, former co-founder and co-president of Maple Pictures, is launching a new Canadian distribution company, Elevation Pictures.
“There is a tremendous opportunity in the Canadian distribution landscape following the consolidation of Maple, Alliance and Entertainment One,” said May. “Elevation Pictures will acquire high quality and commercial titles and give those films a high impact and hands-on approach to releasing. I am excited to launch Elevation Pictures here at TIFF, and get into the market.”
Elevation Pictures has formed a strategic alliance and output deal with Teddy Schwarzman’s New York-based Black Bear Pictures, whose credits include Broken City and All is Lost.
The first film under the output deal will be Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game, which starts production on September 15 starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley.
CAA brokered the deal between Elevation Pictures and Black Bear.
“Laurie is filling a very important hole in the top tier of the Canadian marketplace, and brings with her years of experience, ethics and taste. I couldn’t be more excited for Black Bear to partner with Elevation Pictures,” added Schwarzman.
