TFI International has acquired In The Electric Mist, the new English-language film from director Bertrand Tavernier.

TFM Distrbution will release Mist in France in 2008. TF1 is selling world rights outside the US and English-speaking Canada where Ithaca will handle the film.

The pedigree cast includes Tommy Lee Jones, John Goodman, Peter Sarsgaard, Kelly Macdonald, Tom Sizemore, Mary Steenbergen, Ned Beatty, James Gammon, Levon Helm and Justina Machado.

Mist began shooting on April 25 and will go through June 26 in New Iberia and New Orleans, Louisiana. Michael Fitzgerald of Ithaca Pictures and Frederic Bourboulon of Little Bear Productions are producing in co-production with TF1 International.

The film is based on James Lee Burke's best-seller In The Electric Mist With Confederate Dead and was adapted by Jerzy Kromolowski, Mary Olson-Kromolowski and Jones.

A thriller, Mist is set in Louisiana where detective Dave Robicheaux is on the hunt for a serial killer. On his way home from yet another gruesome crime scene, the detective comes across glamorous Hollywood star Elrod Sykes who is in town shooting a new movie with backing from local mobster Baby Feet Balboni.

Sykes tells Robicheaux he found the shackled body of a dead black man decomposing in a nearby swamp. The discovery unleashes memories for Robicheaux who is convinced the case is connected to the current rash of killings. But as he moves closer to the murderer, the murderer gets closer to Robicheaux's family.
