Warner Bros' Gulf war epic Three Kings charged into the UK box office with £1.4m from 307 sites (including previews of £187,186) reaping a solid site average of £4,687. This placed the film at number two in the chart below record-breaking champ Toy Story 2 which held over at number one for its fourth week running. Taking £2.8m, the Disney/Pixar animated film dropped substantially from last weekend's school holiday high of $10m but with a running tally already close to hitting $60m it is certain to be this year's highest-grossing film.

Oscar-nominated prison drama The Green Mile, starring Tom Hanks, widened to 340 sites to take £1.1m, above The Talented Mr Ripley's three-day gross of £1m at number four in the chart.

After mostly solid reviews for Show Me Love - the Swedish box office success also known as Fucking Amal, pulled in £14,000 from five screens for distributor Alliance Releasing in its first three days. Fellow opener Tumbleweeds, released by Entertainment Film Distributors, grossed £5,000 from three sites despite British actress Janet McTeer earning an Oscar nomination for her performance.
