Edoardo Ponti's Canada-Italy co-production Between Strangers will make its world premiere at the 27th Toronto International Film Festival, Sept. 5-14.

The film, which will be screened as a Special Presentation, features an ensemble cast including Sophia Loren, Gerard Depardieu, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Mira Sorvino, Pete Postlethwaite, Malcolm McDowell and Debra Kara Unger.

Ponti, Sophia Loren's son, makes his feature debut. The film is distributed in Canada by Equinox Films and internationally by Overseas/First Look.

Other Special Presentations include the North American debuts of Australian David Caesar's comedy Dirty Deeds, starring Bryan Brown and Toni Collette, and Elia Suleiman's Divine Intervention and the Canadian premieres of Hayao Miyazaki's animation Spirited Away and Francois Ozon's 8 Femmes.

The festival's Masters series features the North American debuts of Ken Loach's Sweet Sixteen, Mike Leigh's All Or Nothing, Abbas Kiarostami's Ten and Mani Ratnam's A Peck On The Cheek
