The Weinstein Company (TWC) has acquired all international rightsto Patrick Creadon's crossword documentary and Sundance hit Wordplay and will commence sales at Cannes.

Christine O'Malley produced the feature, which profiles NY Times crosswordeditor Will Shortz and charts the fortunes of contestants in the AmericanCrossword Puzzle Tournament founded by Shortz.

Crossword aficionados Bill Clinton, comedian Jon Stewart,filmmaker Ken Burns, and New York Yankees baseball pitcher Mike Mussina offer insightsinto their passion for the puzzle.

"Wordplay is an uplifting and unique look into the huge population of cleverand passionate people who solve puzzles every day," TWC president ofinternational Glen Basner, who negotiated the deal with Cinetic media on behalfof the filmmakers, said.

"Will Shortz is incredibly inventive and Patrick has made afilm that will appeal to audiences around the world."

IFC Films ishandling North American distribution and has a broad strategic alliance withthe Weinsteins under which TWC acts as the exclusive home video distributor andforeign sales agent for IFC Films.
