UK actress Sienna Guillory has been cast opposite Paul Gross in the Canadian western spoof Gunless.

Production companies Rhombus Media and Brightlight Pictures announced key casting today (May 27) as the film began principal photography in British Columbia’s Osoyoos region.

Written and directed by William Phillips, the film sees Gross as a notorious US gunslinger who finds himself stuck in a small Canadian frontier town with a grudge but no gun to settle the matter. Gross’ profile is at an all-time high following the success of the First World War saga Passchendaele last year, which he wrote, produced, directed and starred in.

Guillory, who has also starred in Inkheart, Eragon, Love Actually and The Time Machine, handles the love interest while Callum Keith Rennie fills the role of nemesis as a ruthless bounty hunter. Tyler Mane, who appears in the upcoming H2, and Dustin Milligan co-stars.

Gunless is produced by Niv Fichman of Rhombus Media, which produced Passchendaele, and Stephen Hegyes and Shawn Williamson of Brightlight Pictures, co-producers of Fifty Dead Men Walking.

Alliance will release Gunless in spring next year.
