Lenny Crooks, former head of the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, is moving to New York to start a new consultancy service for filmmakers on both sides of the pond.

Lenny Crooks says: “I am looking forward to relocating to NYC where I can make use of the extensive industry and talent contacts I have made to bring the most adventurous North American and European independent production and financing organisations together.  I view this time of global realignment as an opportunity for new creative coalitions to challenge the old conventions.  In addition, I can see great opportunities in working with the not-for-profit sector in developing and promoting the work of emerging filmmakers.

Crooks had been head of the fund for a four-year term, from September 2006 to March 2010.

The New Cinema Fund was recently wrapped into the sole production fund at the UKFC, following a restructuring.

Past NCF projects include Fish Tank, Bright Star and In The Loop, as well as Cannes 2010 selections Chatroom and Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff.

Before joining the UKFC, Crooks had been director of the Glasgow Film Office and previously worked at Glasgow Film Finance Ltd, the Glasgow Film Fund, and Inverclyde Productions.
