UK independent Momentum boosted its video distribution market share to 6.88% for the second quarter of this year, compared to its entire year average in 2001 of 2.13%, according to the MRIB rental distribution tracker.

The driving force behind this success was the Samuel L. Jackson's hit action comedy The 51st State, which was placed second highest renter behind Buena Vista's The Others. Strength however, comes in depth, with three further Momentum films (Amelie, Soul Survivors and Get Over It) scoring in the VHS/DVD Top 50, compared with only one film, Zoolander, from Paramount.

Momentum also took the top three spots in the MRIB independent distribution chart, with an impressive eight in the Top 30.

Momentum's bouyant streak has seen its share outpace even that of giant Paramount, whose 4.41% entire year average market share for 2001, fell to 2.8% during the second quarter of this year.

Indeed with 6.88%, Momentum commanded a greater UK home video market share than Paramount (2.8%), High Fliers (1.56%) and Film Four (1.48%) combined, for the three month period.
