The Weinstein Company (TWC) is bringing the 1980s hit television seriesKnight Rider to thebig screen after acquiring rights from show creator Glen A Larson.

Larson will write the screenplay and serve as executive producer throughGlen A Larson Productions.

Knight Rider is a revenge story about a police investigator who survives ashooting and is rescued by a mysterious benefactor who provides him with fundsand gadgetry to fight crime.

One of the toys the benefactor provides is a talking high-techcar.

The original show ran on NBC from 1982-86 and famously starredDavid Hasselhoff in the lead role as Michael Knight.

David Price brought the project to TWC and will co-produce.Production executives Brendan Deneen and Eric Robinson will oversee for TWC andreport to co-president of production Michael Cole.

Executive vice president of business and legal affairs Eric Roth negotiatedthe deal for TWC with Skip Brittenham, Stephen Espinoza and Barry Felsen onbehalf of Larson.
