Wim Wenders and Sam Shepard who last collaborated on Wenders' 80s classic Paris Texas are to reteam on the screenplay for Wenders' next feature, an as yet untitled road movie set across the US.

The new film which will be produced by Wenders' Berlin-based Road Movies Filmproduktion GmbH is set to start shooting on location in the US in early 2001. Road Movies managing director Ulrich Felsberg will be at MIFED discussing potential partnerships on the film. Road Movies is owned by public German production and post-production group Das Werk.

Wenders' last film The Million Dollar Hotel was a Road Movies production in conjuntion with Icon Entertainment, Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey's LA-based production outfit, which co-financed the film and sold it internationally. Gibson also starred alongside Jeremy Davies and Milla Jovovich.

Wenders describes the film as "a road movie right across the United States, a family saga and, at the same time a story which takes place in the age of the Internet and global communication."

Author/actor Sam Shepard wrote the screenplay for Paris Texas which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1984. The cult movie which starred Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski is considered one of the seminal films of that decade.
