Films Distribution has acquired the next film from Wim Wenders. Based on the book In The Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami, the film, entitled, Miso Soup , was developed by producer Philippe Carcassonne who brought the project to Wenders.

Wenders will shoot the $8m film beginning in February. Willem Dafoe has accepted the lead role in principle with negotiations being finalized.

A psychological thriller about a serial killer in the red-light district of Tokyo, the film is a 'genre movie with an art house twist. From an international sales point of view this movie is like blessed bread for us,' Nicolas Brigaud-Robert co-chief of Films Distribution told Screen.

Soup will be set up as a French-German co-production with Japanese and Korean partners soon to be announced. The German partner is Green Sky. In-ah Lee is also producing in tandem with Carcassonne. Films Distribution is starting pre-sales immediately.

Separately, the company has acquired Cedric Kahn's Les Regrets for international sales. The film is a drama about lovers who meet up again after a long separation and find out what their life might have been like had they stayed together.

Yvan Attal and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi star in the picture. Kahn's last film was 2005's L'Avion . His 2004 film Feux Rouges ran in competition in Berlin and in 2001, Roberto Succo was in competition in Cannes.

Brigaud Robert told Screen the company battled fiercely to get the picture. This is the first collaboration for Kahn and Films Distribution.
