HanWay Films has announced that Ben Whishaw and Matthew Goode have taken the lead roles as Sebastian and Charles, respectively, in the forthcoming big-screen adaptation of Brideshead Revisited.

Julian Jarrold is directing the project, and Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae are producing through their Ecosse Films. HanWay is handling worldwide sales.

Whishaw recently starred in Perfume: The Story of A Murderer and will soon appear in Todd Haynes' I'm Not There. He is one of the nominees for this year's Orange Rising Star award at the BAFTAs.

Goode starred in Woody Allen's Match Point and will appear in Scott Frank's The Lookout.

'At HanWay we are delighted that the casting of these pivotal roles is now confirmed,' said HanWay CEO Tim Haslam. 'Ben and Matthew are two of Britain's brightest acting talents who will bring great energy and an edgier approach to the realisation of this film. We're thrilled to have them onboard.'

Shooting will take place on location in Oxford and Venice. Evelyn Waugh's classic novel will be adapted by Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock.

More casting will be announced soon.

HanWay's EFM slate also includes Jarrold's Becoming Jane, Gerald McMorrow's Franklyn, Philip Noyce's Dirt Music and Michael Winterbottom's Genova.
