The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) has confirmed that Wong Kar Wai will conduct the masterclass at this year’s edition of the festival (March 17-April 2).

Free and open to the public, the masterclass will be held on March 21 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with simultaneous translation in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

The annual masterclass is jointly organised by Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) and the Jockey Club Cine Academy (JCCA). In 2012 it was hosted by Keanu Reeves and in 2011 by Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke.

Wong Kar Wai recently served as president of the Berlinale jury where his most recent film, The Grandmaster, played as the opening film.

“We are very honoured that Wong has accepted our invitation,” said HKIFF executive dirctor Roger Garcia.

“With his unique and mesmerising stories and aesthetics, he has created a universe entirely of his own. His admirers hail from all over the world and he has helped advance the cause of Hong Kong cinema internationally.”
