Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International (CTFDI) enjoyed a superb number one opening for its action thriller XXX in Russia over the weekend, taking $1.2m from 162 prints. The picture went out on the widest ever release in the territory, which is starting to yield promising returns for distributors. The opening was an unconfirmed fifth or sixth industry best for the territory, which has seen significant theatre growth in the last couple of years. XXX also opened number one in Colombia, grossing $175,000 from 75 prints. It was the fourth biggest opening of the year in the territory. XXX took $3.1m over the weekend to give it a $13.8m international running total. The picture is set to roll out across Europe in October.

With no openings for Men In Black II, the sci-fi sequel held on to top spot in Italy in its second week, grossing $1.65m. Playing on more than 2,000 screens internationally, Men On Black II took $3.2m over the weekend for a $234.2m international cumulative score.

Stuart Little 2 opened in Australia on $1.1m from 290 prints, including previews. It managed $2.7m over the weekend for a $64.5m running total and could go on to make $90m by the end of its run. The family sequel is now playing on 2,500 screens internationally.
