The Beijing Screenings, China Film Group’s annual showcase of recent Chinese film production, has been postponed from September to October.
The event was originally scheduled for September 23-26 but will now be held October 27-30. Organisers said this was due to the huge preparations for the 60th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, which is monopolising hotel accommodation, travel facilities and executives’ time.
“With preparations well in advance, the organising committee of the 13th Beijing Screenings is very sorry to announce its decision to postpone the Beijing Screenings,” said organisers China Film Group and China Film Promotion International in a statement.
Although the screenings encompass a large number of “main melody” or propaganda films, they also showcase some of the country’s burgeoning privately-produced, commercial production.
In previous years, some significant deals have been concluded at the event such as France’s Pretty Pictures picking up Tuya’s Marriage which went on to win the Berlin Golden Bear.
