The government of South Korea is awarding the Order of Culture Merit, Eun-Gwan Medal to Thierry Fremaux, the general delegate of the Cannes Film Festival.

He is being honoured “in recognition of his contributions to the development of Korea’s film industry and the elevation of its international standing”.

Kim Dong-ho, the former Busan International Film Festival chief who now heads the Presidential Committee for Cultural Enrichment, will present Fremaux with the medal at Korean Film Night on May 18.
