Taiwanese actress and filmmaker Sylvia Chang has joined the board of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) in the role of vice chairman.
“As one of Asia’s oldest and most respected film festivals, we have followed Sylvia Chang’s career since the 1970s,” said Wilfred Wong, chairman of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS).
“To have someone with a wealth of experience and talent as Sylvia Chang as a member of our board is a great honour. We believe that her special insight will help the HKIFFS grow tremendously in the years to come.”
Chang is known internationally for her role in the 1998 Oscar-winning drama The Red Violin and the Berlin competition title 20.30.40 which she directed. She has also directed critically-acclaimed films including Passion (1986), Siao Yu (1995) and Tempting Heart (1999).
The HKIFFS has made three other appointments to the board – Vincent Chow, director & group general manager of Chow Sang Sang Holdings; Alan Wong, former special advisor at Cathay Pacific Airways; and Alexander Mak, managing director of Mazars Tax Services who has been appointed as honorary treasurer.
