Indian distributor 52 Weeks Entertainment has acquired Indian rights to two Summit Entertainment titles – action thriller Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and The Impossible, with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

The company plans to release the films across India close to day-and-date with their global release – April in the case of Source Code and The Impossible in October/November.

“The Hollywood revenue pie in India was stagnant at a meager 3-4% of the total Indian film box office collections for a long time. In 2009 and 2010, due to the advent of 3D technology, this has increased to 8-10% and is likely to touch 12% in 2011,” said 52 Weeks’ Suniel Wadhwa.

“Both films are sure to appeal to our audiences. While Source Code is an edge-of-the-seat action thriller, The Impossible, based on a true story of the 2004 tsunami in Thailand, will tug at the heartstrings. Here spectacular special effects blend with heart-wrenching emotional drama.”

52 Weeks is also handling the pan-Indian release of UK comedy West Is West, the follow-up to East Is East, which opens in the UK today. The Indian release is scheduled for April 1.

The company has previously handled the pan-India release for Hindi title Tere Bin Laden and also distributed The Hurt Locker and local title Ishqiya in the Mysore region and Inception and Karan Johar’s I Hate Luv Stories in Gujarat. It has also handled several titles in the Central Provinces including Tamil title Robot and Hindi films Yamla Pagla Deewana and Patiala House.
