India’s Yash Raj Films has announced that Shahrukh Khan will star in its upcoming tentpole picture Fan.
Maneesh Sharma will direct the film from a script by Habib Faisal. Yash Raj Films’ Aditya Chopra will produce. Production is scheduled to start in May 2014.
Khan, who has one of the world’s biggest fanbases, will turn the tables and play a fan himself in the film. “Most of the characters I do are the ones I create. For the first time I am going to play what has created me. I will be in my next a ‘fan’.”
Sharma recently directed Shuddh Desi Romance, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra, which played at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Khan’s most recent production is Happy New Year, directed by Farah Khan, which is currently in post-production.
