Korean production house bom Film Productions has sealed a Japanese deal on its Berlin competition title Come Rain, Come Shine, which has been snapped up by Pony Canyon.
Directed by Lee Yoon-ki, the film portrays a couple on their last day together after deciding to split after five years of marriage. The couple are played by Lim Soo-jung (A Tale Of Two Sisters) and Hyun Bin.
The deal was negotiated in association with People In Communications (PIC), a newly-launched Korean company which specialises in international consulting and marketing for films. Fortissimo Films has rights to Come Rain, Come Shine outside Korea and Japan.
Pony Canyon previously released bom’s A Bittersweet Life, directed by Kim Jee-woon.
Meanwhile, bom is also launching sales on its upcoming action drama Countdown, starring Jeon Do-youn who won best actress at Cannes in 2007 for Secret Sunshine. Written and directed by Huh Jong-ho, the film revolves around a cold-blooded debt collector who needs a liver transplant and the beautiful swindler whose liver is his only hope.
Jeon, who also appeared in last year’s Cannes competition title The Housemaid, stars opposite Jeong Jae-young (Castaway On The Moon) in Countdown, which is being readied for Korean release in September.
Bom’s Oh Jung-wan and PIC’s EJ Cho are handling sales for Asian territories and looking for a partner to handle Western territories.
