Hong Kong’s Mandarin Films has sold North American rights to Ip Man and its sequel Ip Man 2 to Well Go USA Inc.

Released in 2008, Ip Man tells the life story of the grandmaster of Wing Chun martial arts and was a big hit in Chinese-speaking territories in December 2008. The $10m sequel, which is scheduled for release in Asia at the end of April, was also sold to Germany’s Splendid.

The sequel, again directed by Wilson Yip and starring Donnie Yen as Ip Man, follows the kung-fu master as he moves to Hong Kong and meets his most famous pupil – Bruce Lee. Sammo Hung, Huang Xiaoming and Xiong Dai Lin also star.
