‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’

DECEMBER 3 UPDATE: Disney’s Ralph Breaks The Internet stayed atop the North American charts in a predictability tame post-Thanksgiving session as a confirmed $25.6m kept The Grinch and Creed II in line and pushed the tally to $119.1m after two weekends.

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch climbed one place to number two in its fourth session and crossed $200m, adding $17.9m via Universal to reach $203.7m. MGM and New Line’s Creed II dropped 52.7% and one place to number three on $16.6m for $80.9m after two and remain on course to finish in the same region as the 2015 original’s $109.8m result.

Horror film The Possession Of Hannah Grace opened in seventh place via Screen Gems on $6.4m in 2,065 theatres. Free Solo became the fourth documentary to cross $10m this year in an exceptional year for the non-fiction form at the box office, and ranks 20th via National Georgraphic after 10 weekends.

Fox Searchlight’s The Favourite, winner of a record 10 prizes at Sunday’s British Independent Film Awards, complemented last weekend’s sensational limited debut with an excellent expansion from four to 34 venues and climbed five places to number 14 on $1.1m for $1.6m after two weekends.

Robin Hood fell 48% via Lionsgate-Summit in its second weekend, dropping one place to number eight on $4.8m for $21.8m. Widows ranks ninth on $33.1m via Fox after three sessions, and after last weekend’s spectacular climb into the top 10, Universal’s Green Book dropped to number 10 on $3.9m for $14m after three.

The top 12 combined for $110.8m, down 46.7% on Thanksgiving weekend and up 10.9% against the comparable session in 2017.

There are no new wide releases this week. On December 14, Universal launches the fantasy adventure Mortal Engines produced by Peter Jackson, while Sony releases the animation Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse; and Warner Bros opens Clint Eastwood’s drama The Mule starring Eastwood and Bradley Cooper.
