‘Ralph Breaks The Internet’

DECEMBER 10 UPDATE: Disney animation Ralph Breaks The Internet held on to number one in North America for the third weekend as a confirmed $16.3m led a down session.

Weekend box office for the top 12 amounted to $77.8m, down 29.8% on last weekend and up 2.3% against the comparable session in 2017. A trio of potential awards contenders launched, led by Focus Features’ Mary Queen Of Scots at number 23 on $194,777 from four for a morale-boosting $48,694 average.

Neon debuted Natalie Portman pop diva saga Vox Lux at number 27 on $155,714 in six, and Roadside Attractions opened the Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges drama Ben Is Back at number 36 on $80,733 in four venues.

The top 10 mostly stayed the same with Amblin Partners, Participant Media and Dreamwrorks’ Golden Globe nominee Green Book climbing three slots to number seven, adding $3.9m via Universal for $19.9m after four weekends.

After three sessions Creed II ranks third and is approaching $100m in $96.5m, while Paramount’s comedy Instant Family in sixth place crossed $50m. Screen Gem’s The Possession Of Hannah Grace fell 50.5% in its second session and dropped two slots to number nine, adding $3.2m for $11.5m.

Universal re-released Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List and it arrived at number 14 on $566,760 in 1,029 theatres. The Hindu-Muslim love story Kedarnath opaned at number 16 on $407,118 in 113 sites via Pack Your Bags.

This week’s wide releases are: Universal’s fantasy adventure Mortal Engines produced by Peter Jackson; Sony animation Spider-man: Into The Spider-Verse; and Warner Bros Clint Eastwood drama The Mule starring Eastwood and Bradley Cooper.
